Contessa have designed their rail to fit as accurately as possible, tested on a wide number of Sako 85 actions. We have discovered there are slight variations in the Sako rifle dovetails due to factory tolerances, so even just a 1\/100th of a mm can mean a poor fit. A method we use to overcome this poor fit is to remove the recoil stud from the rail (This is usually glued in with thread locker by Contessa, you may need to heat the screw to release the bond). This should allow the rail to slide on further and tighter. If this doesn't overcome the problem, we do suggest to use Locktite where the rail dovetail surface contacts the rifle dovetail. This will ensure a solid hold. Bear in mind, any recoil actually pushes the rail forwards into the dovetail and recoil will not alone cause the rail to loosen.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e* The older models of Sako with the tapered dovetail, even on the Sako 75, there are larger variations in the dovetail widths. So you may discover that the rail does not slide on fully flush with the back of the rifle. This again would require hand fitting to the rifle. The mount is precision made to fit the Sako Tapered Dovetail System. Supplied as components, the separate bases are mounted to the rifle and locked in place with vertical locking screws (we do suggest giving the bases a firm tap with a plastic hammer to make sure they're fitted on fully). \u003cbr\u003eThen the picatinny rail is attached to the bases using the screws provided. As the picatinny rail is adjustable in length, provided the bases on your Sako are between 50-73mm apart, the rail will be able to fit. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003eFitting:\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe independent front and rear bases slide onto the Sako dovetails, then are tightened to the action using locking screws from the top of the base. Once the bases are fitted, the length of picatinny fits over the top of them and is screwed on to the bases to secure them in place.
